Developer Larian Studios has released a free update for its role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin, adding two new companions alongside a list of miscellaneous improvements.

The characters are part of The Bear and the Burglar update, available for free on Steam as DLC, or as an update if you got the game on GOG.

The two new companions announced in a Kickstarter update, however, will only be available for players starting a new game after applying the update, which unfortunately means giving up on their current progress.

Players who don't want to start the journey all over again will get a host of other improvements though, so it's not all that bad.

New companions

Bairdotr is described as a "curious and loyal ranger," who just managed to get herself into trouble at the Legion's barracks, while the second companion, Wolgraff, is a silent rogue making a living out of stealing coins from the wishing well in the Cyseal hinterlands, accessible through the graveyard tunnel.

Players who don't want to start the game over again will be able to enjoy an improved system for following other players' conversations, enabling seeing the conversation in its own dialogue box with the click of a button.

There are also a lot of other bug fixes, from crashes to saved games refusing to load, as well as some quest and story tweaks, and a new layer of polish has been added to the spell and skill effects.

Furthermore, the overall audio balance has been updated, and a lot of missing sounds have been added, in order to provide a more immersive and satisfying experience.

The future of Divinity: Original Sin

Larian Studios has already pledged continued support for the role-playing game, especially given how successful the game turned out to be.

The studio has revealed that the game has already sold well over half a million units, covering all development costs and breaking the threshold of profitability, enabling the developer to focus its energy on creating new content and improving the experience without having to worry about the financial part of the business.

The studio says that the team is already back in the trenches, hard at work on creating new skills and planning to introduce new difficulty modes that will make the game more challenging for experienced users.
