Developer Larian Studios has just announced that its hit classic role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin is coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 home consoles.

The newly revealed Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition will be released at the end of the year, coming with a slew of improvements, and will be offered free of charge to those who already own the base version of the role-playing title.

The news comes from an update on the Divinity: Original Sin Kickstarter page, where Larian head Swen Vincke has mentioned that around 40 people have been working on the Enhanced Edition for close to a year.

The engine, the visuals, the story, the ending, everything has been tweak, and in some cases completely overhauled, and as such, Divinity: Original Sin and its Enhanced Edition will exist as two separate games.

The two version are incompatible, and this is also true when it comes to saved games, unfortunately.

In any case, there's plenty to look forward to, and the fact that such a massive game is coming to consoles is much more exciting than some mere saved games woes.

Larian has provided great post-launch support

The Enhanced Edition will, of course, support native controller input, and mouse and keyboard users will also get a new interface to toy around with. Furthermore, the game's cooperative mode now works in split screen, enabling users to adventure independently of one another.

The game is built on DirectX 11, which means that most of the visual effects have been redone and look even better than before, and the camera can now rotate a full 360 degrees.

As far as the actual gameplay is concerned, Vincke has mentioned that all of the encounters have been rebuilt, and that the game's main storyline has been given a lot more attention.

There are numerous new locations and quests to discover, and now everything is fully voice acted, resulting in a much more immersive experience.

Divinity: Original Sin already is one of the best games to have ever come out of Kickstarter, showing that a great team can work wonders when it has the community's support. The game has been doing pretty good, selling over a million copies since its release last year.

Larian Studios currently has two unannounced projects in the works, but nothing is known about them for the time being. Until we learn anything more, you can check out the Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition announcement video below.
