The dive belt was especially made for the turtle, helps the animal submerge

About 11 years ago, a green sea turtle named Ali got hit by a boat and lost its ability to swim. This was because an air bubble got trapped under its shell, making it impossible for the animal to submerge.

However, thanks to the staff at Weymouth Sea Life Adventure Park in Dorset, this unlucky turtle can now go swimming again.

Long story short: these conservationists have pieced together a so-called dive belt, which can pack up to 2.5lbs (roughly 1.13 kg) of removable lead weights, therefore allowing Ali to go about its business underwater, Daily Mail reports.

“It will take a little time for Ali to get used to wearing her new jacket but eventually we see her wearing it all the time.”

“This new invention will make life so much better for her. If the belt is successful it could pave the way for the other turtles,” a spokesperson for the Park told the press.
