Ditto wearable is said to be the anti-gadget

Do you like smartwatches but you shrivel away in panic when confronted with their chunky price tags?

You’re not alone. Wearables might be the next big thing in tech, but the reality is that customers are still pretty skittish about picking one up and the main reason is price.

The folks behind a new Kickstarter project know this all too well, so they have created Ditto – a low-cost alternative for those who don’t want to spend a fortune on a smartphone accessory.

Ditto costs only $30 / €24, and albeit not being as fancy as the Apple Watch or Moto 360, it can still do a smartwatch’s main job.

Ditto will not break your piggy bank

In fact Ditto is a tiny, bottle-cap-sized device that you can clip onto our shirt or cap that will vibrate when you receive a smartphone notification.

Once Ditto is in place, you’ll have to pair it with a free app from iOS and Android so you can customize which notifications you want to receive and set up the vibrations specific for texts or missed calls.

Furthermore, you can set Ditto to vibrate in a certain way, so you’ll know the difference between your boss and a family member calling you.

Ditto connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and has a range of 100 feet / 30m, but if you wonder too far off from your handset, it will vibrate to let you know.

The small device is waterproof and can be attached to a band you can also wear around your wrist. So if you don’t want to strap it on (that might look a bit ostentatious for some) you can always wear it like you do your regular smartwatch.

Ditto is touted to be the "anti-gadget" – simple yet useful

The Kickstarter page calls Ditto the “anti-gadget,” but the definition makes sense. After all, Ditto strives to provide an alternative to expensive smartwatches for people who just need a notification device.

The Ditto team doesn’t miss their chance of poking a little fun at the big guys, as it makes “subtle” references to Apple’s Watch.

“Sorry, you can’t send your heartbeat to a loved one with Ditto.”

Ditto is not a health-tracker sort of devices which, it is pointed out, are devices border lining wackery.

This is a sane assumption given the fact that most wearable sensors rely on semi-specific bodily cues which they correlate to obtain the health information they deliver to your wrist.

Last but not least, we have to mention that Ditto’s battery is sturdy enough to support a life cycle four to six months long.

Ditto is currently up on Kickstarter seeking funding, and if you pledge now, you’ll be able to get this anti-gadget for $30 / €24. If it arrives in retail, Ditto will sell for $50 / €40.
