Burlesque dancer talks fame and fashion

Admittedly, shock rocker Marilyn Manson’s former wife Dita Von Teese is not the type the fashion industry can consider a model or a trendsetter. This happens mainly for two reasons, one being that she is most often in outfits that are a far cry from what the trends have us wear, while the other is that she’s built for herself a style that would hardly fit any other woman. With all that, fashion magazines continue to woo her.

As such, Dita is gracing the cover and pages of the winter 2008/2009 issue of Citizen K, in a spread that is already causing hysteria amidst fans, and not only, for its picturesque beauty and the delicately ancient, yet never-fading feel it sends off. Photographer Sol Sanchez is the one behind this gorgeous spread of Dita, and also the one responsible for bringing to light a side of the starlet the public was not familiar with, the soft, extremely feminine one.

Speaking with the magazine, the burlesque dancer who gained a reputation for herself both for her fiery shows but also through her admirable way of handling the attention the media is showering her with, tackled such topics as fame, and what being famous means for her, and her first foray into the world of fashion.

“When I was young, I was given advice for becoming rich and famous. I did neither. There are many women who want to be actresses or models […]. What I wanted was not to be like everyone else […]” the dancer says about her greatest ambition of when she was young. However, Dita is more than just a dancer, and the public knows it: she’s also a fervent fighter for animal rights, and an active model for various brands of cosmetic products or lingerie.

Speaking of which, this is precisely what her new line is all about and, of course, Dita is not shy to talk about it. “I’m a crazy girl with an obsession for lingerie. It is not a question of seduction, but of femininity, which is very different. Through fashion, you can be a flirt,” Dita says, thus revealing what was until not long ago one of her most guarded secrets.
