Dita Von Teese says she turned to plastic surgery because drug abuse had severely damaged her body

Burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese is known, aside from her routine in the champagne glass and her short-lived marriage to shock rocker Marilyn Manson, for being what one may call an example of good health. It wasn’t always so, though, and especially not in the ‘90s, she reveals in a recent interview cited by ContactMusic.

Back then, she was young and inexperienced and, above all, new to the party scene and easily taken in by it. She started doing drugs just for fun at first, Dita admits, but the habit soon got out of hand and she found herself an addict. Her weight dropped and things began to change about her body in the most alarming fashion. By the time she found the strength to fight the addiction, most of the damage had already been done.

Her chest retained the most visible signs, though, so she decided to get implants, Dita admits. “The burlesque beauty admits she began dabbling with illegal substances when she was a teenager, and her habit spiraled out of control throughout the 1990s. Von Teese confesses the drugs took a major toll on her figure, but seeing herself so gaunt gave her the motivation to kick her addictions and she eventually opted for surgery to repair the damage.” ContactMusic writes.

“I was a bit of a party girl in the early ‘90s and used LSD and Ecstasy. Eventually my weight dropped to 6st 7lbs and I looked terrible, so I gave up drugs. My breasts never recovered, so when I was 21 I had 32D implants. Now I’m a healthy 8st 2lbs.” Dita herself says in the interview quoted by the publication. Not only is the dancer a healthier size these days, but she’s also come to be regarded as a good role model for girls and women out there, for being a celebrity with a figure close to what we see in real life.

As we were also telling you a while back, singer Amy Winehouse also opted for surgery on her bust to repair the damages done by drugs and a too-wild lifestyle. However, according to recent speculation, the multi Grammy-winning singer may still be far off from complete recovery, unlike Dita.
