Last week, shock rocker Marilyn Manson talked to the media for the first time about his divorce from dancer Dita von Teese and the new relationship he has with 19-year-old actress Evan Rachel
Wood. The eternal child who also likes to call himself the Prince of Darkness also said that Dita was the only one responsible for the failure that was their marriage because, to put it simply, she wanted to change him, to convince him to grow up and become more responsible.
'Our relationship ended at Halloween and I was completely destroyed psychologically. I was married to someone who wanted me to change, become more adult, more responsible. I began not to like myself, not like what I do. I lost my identity. Everything began collapsing around me', Marilyn told the 'Le Parisien' newspaper. In the same interview, he also admitted dating Evan Rachel Wood, to whom he referred to in terms of 'the love of my life', 'my double' and 'my twin'.
If Marilyn's interview (who is usually a very discreet person who simply abhors talking about his personal life) could be easily attributed to the fact that he is now preparing for the release of a brand new album, Dita's could be cataloged as a reaction to being trashed in the media by her ex. And a way of showing Marilyn that she can be more diplomatic than him in what concerns their divorce.
In the upcoming issue of 'Harper's Bazaar', Dita sheds her usual make-up mask and shyness and openly talks about what went wrong in what has been termed as the weirdest marriage ever. 'I would not get married if I didn't believe in it. I've always believed in tradition. I think both of us did, at the time. Let's just say that it must have been something pretty bad for me, to move out of the house after six years together, to pack up my stuff on Christmas Eve. I loved him, and this was the most painful thing I have ever had to go through. It's been really difficult. It's not what I expected when I got married, and I felt like I'd found the man of my dreams.', the sexy dancer tells the magazine.
Dita also goes into details about her marriage to Marilyn saying that, contrary to popular belief, they were 100 percent monogamous. She admits to being hurt when she saw her long-time relationship fall apart but she's optimistic that, one day, she will manage to get past it. 'I'm excited, in a way, about the adventure of life and what's next. Because I firmly believe that when one door closes, another one opens somewhere, and every cloud has a silver lining. But it's easy to tell yourself that sometimes and harder to make your heart really feel it.', she explains.
Well, if that's not a lesson of good PR and manners (not to mention diplomacy), I don't know what is. Even if there still are many who claim Dita is now where she is because of her relationship with Marilyn Manson, her vehicle to fame, at least she's attentive enough not to point fingers and to cast all the blame and responsibility on someone else.
