Distimo has released another one of its reports looking at the Apple App Store, as well as other similar platforms, including the BlackBerry App World, Google Android Market, Nokia Ovi Store, Palm App Catalog and Windows Marketplace for Mobile for April 2010. One segment of the report has a particular focus on iPhone applications during the November 2009 – April 2010 timeframe.

Distimo is a newly emerged app-store analytics firm that aims to solve the challenges created by a widely fragmented app-store marketplace filled with equally fragmented information and statistics. Its reports provide valuable insight into the mobile-application ecosystem, including the important trends regarding these application stores.

Looking at the Apple App Store in particular, Distimo was able to pinpoint that, “Paid applications in the Top Overall, Games, Business and Entertainment categories stay in these categories for 27, 39, 59 and 38 days on average, respectively. Free applications stay in the Top 100 for a significantly shorter time in the Top Overall, Games and Business categories, with 19, 21 and 39 days on average, respectively.”

Falling into the Games and Entertainment categories are the majority of paid applications that had been in the Top 100 Overall during the entire period of November 2009 – April 2010, Distimo said. “The majority of the 10 highest ranked paid applications were published in the following categories in April 2010: Productivity (Apple App Store for iPad), Games (Apple App Store for iPhone), Themes (BlackBerry App World), News & Weather (Google Android Market), Games (Nokia Ovi Store), Productivity & Utilities (Palm App Catalog) and in Games (Windows Marketplace for Mobile),” according to the latest Distimo Report.

Finally, the tracker looks at the highest ranked paid iPad application in the Apple App Store. In April 2010, that application was actually one of Apple’s – Pages. Following in its footsteps was GoodReader, followed by Pinball HD. As for free apps, iBooks was declared the highest ranked free iPad application, followed by The Solitaire and Break HD Free, Distimo said.
