Distimo has released its July 2010 report which covers the Apple App Store for iPad and iPhone with specific focus on in-app purchases for June 2010 in the United States. The report also looks at app stores including the BlackBerry App World (Worldwide), the Google Android Market, the Nokia Ovi Store, the Palm App Catalog, and Windows Marketplace for Mobile

In usual manner, Distimo provides its major findings in a summary on the first page of its report, revealing that the percentage of applications with in-app purchases is significantly higher in the iPad App Store (10%) than in the App Store for iPhone (2%). In both stores, the Games and Social Networking categories have the highest proportion of applications with in-app purchases available, according to the analytics firm.

Weighing in on the most successful free applications that monetized using in-app purchases this month, Distimo mentions the following titles in the iPhone App Store: MobiTV (MobiTV), ESPN 2010 FIFA World Cup (ESPN) and Tap Fish (BayView Labs). The highest-ranked paid applications relying on the same strategy for monetization are Guitar Hero (Activision Publishing, Inc.), TomTom U.S.A. (TomTom International BV) and Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies II (Activision Publishing, Inc.), according to Distimo.

“Mirroring the Distimo report covering May 2010, Pages and iBooks, published by Apple Inc, are again the number one paid and free applications on the Apple App Store for iPad, respectively,” the firm notes. “Three out of the ten most popular applications in the Apple App Store for iPhone were published by Electronic Arts,” another key finding goes. The company points out to Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite for iPad saying the software entered the top 10 highest ranked paid applications chart to occupy the 6th position at the moment. Following Pages by Apple, Quickoffice was the top grossing application in the Apple App Store for iPad, Distimo claims.

Finally, the report notes that nine out of the ten of the most popular paid applications on Apple’s iPhone App Store are games. In terms of free software, though, only two out of the ten most popular apps are games, said Distimo. By comparison, seven out of ten of the most popular paid applications in Nokia’s Ovi Store are games. Only three out of ten of the most popular free applications are Games, in the Finish vendor’s store.
