Disney has announced that it is currently developing a Toy Story 3 videogame set to be released at the same time as the homonymous movie on June 15. The new experience should be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation Portable, the DS and the PC.

The development of the videogame based on the animation movie is handled by Avalanche Studios. Disney is saying that the experience of the game will mimic that of the movie and will allow players to explore an open world based on the settings seen on screen and featuring the same characters.

Cowboy Woody and action hero Buzz will be the main characters and players will control them at certain points in the story. Toy Story 3 tells the story of them arriving in the Sunnyside Daycare Center, where old toys who are no longer wonders spend their final years, and of their escape.

It's not clear whether the stars of the movie, which features Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Ned Beatty, Joan Cusack or Timothy Dalton, will also lend their voices to the videogame characters. The game might also include some sections not directly featured in the movie. The versions of Toy Story 3: The Game, which are set for home gaming consoles, will also have a mode called “Toy Box” allowing players to put together their own adventure by using all the toys and the backgrounds featured in the release.

It's interesting to note the wide range of platforms on which Toy Story 3 is set to be outed by Disney, especially after Bob Iger, the Chief Executive Officer, underlined that the games the company bases on its other intellectual properties tend to sell better on the Nintendo home console and the handheld and on other less powerful devices.
