An ingenious artist took pictures of iconic Disney characters and transformed them into the opposite gender of what they were presented originally as part of a project called “Genderbent Disney.”

Disney has often been criticized for its gender stereotyping, so TT Bret decided to edit images of various Disney Princes to make them look feminine. The 23-year-old artist has modified the facial traits of classic characters like Prince Charming from Cinderella and Prince Philip of Sleeping Beauty, to give them a female touch.

The artist created these transformations in an attempt to advocate for diversity in cartoon designs, and she hopes that the project will help broaden beauty standards for both men and women.

“It’s important to challenge stereotypes. The images of normalcy and beauty that the media portrays are very limited, as well and the ideals of gender and sexuality,” Bret said in an interview with the Huffington Post.

“Ideal human traits should apply to everyone, not just a limited few,” she added.

Bret's series of illustrations resulted in a wider variety of facial and body structures, although they basically maintain the character's central features. Her works show how beauty ideals can be subverted in order to create diverse characters that don’t all look the same.
