The development team working on Disney Infinity says it wants to include enough content and depth in the future versions of their game that no fans feel compelled to try out rival titles coming from Activision and Nintendo.

The game will get access to Marvel heroes and villains in the fall of this year and rumors are saying that Star Wars themed figurines and content will be delivered in 2015.

The developers are quoted by Newsrama as saying that, “While we respect, of course, the amazing teams behind Skylanders and all the work they've done there, and we're excited about what we've heard is coming out from Nintendo, we're trying to innovate with our software and empower players to become Disney storytellers.”

Skylanders is getting access to modular toys in the fall, with an all-new portal of power that can accommodate more complexity in the experiences.

But the most ambitious initiative is that of Nintendo, which aims to deliver a Amiibo line of figurines before the end of the year for both the 3DS and the Wii U.

The products are designed to store experience and learn from the player as they are being used in order to introduce a progression element to their use, based on the game and platform.
