The development team working on the Disney Infinity mix of video game and toys is ready to deliver more information on the coming Guardians of the Galaxy content, which is set to arrive for the title on September 23 via an entirely new Playset for the 2.0 edition, called Marvel Super Heroes.

The official announcement on the PS Blog states that "The Guardians of the Galaxy Play Set follows Star-Lord and the other galactic Guardians on an all-new adventure as they defend Knowhere from Ronan the Accuser. This is an original storyline in the Guardians of the Galaxy Universe crafted by esteemed comic writer Brian Michael Bendis and the stellar team at Avalanche Software."

The official playset will include Star-Lord and Gamora in order to offer fans a starting experience, and those who want to assemble the entire team will be able to pick up Drax, Groot and Rocket as single-standing figurines at launch.

Disney says that the Rocket Racoon toy has been specifically designed to sit neatly on the shoulder of Groot without any mechanical attachments.

At a later date, the game will also include Ronan the Accuser, the main villain from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and the company will also allow Ironman and Nova to cross-over to the set in order to create exclusive new missions.

Disney adds, "The Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Starter Pack is going to come with two Toy Box Game Discs, one of which is Guardians of the Galaxy themed. In Escape from the Kyln, you must race against time to escape a space prison, collecting treasures and cool upgrades along the way. The disc clocks in at about 2-3 hours of repeatable galactic gameplay."

There are also power discs that are themed around the intellectual property, including a Space Armor Power that resembles a Gamora costume and a Yondu disc which allows gamers to summon the character to take out enemy forces.

A range of other superheroes and supervillains based on content from Marvel Comics will also be added to Disney Infinity in the fall.

Rumors are also saying that the company will leverage its Star Wars intellectual property and will deliver toys and content based on it when the new movie trilogy hits the big screen.

Those who want more Guardians of the Galaxy content can also pick up a special pinball table built around the superhero team and its adventures.
