The characters from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy will soon become available in Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes.

Disney Interactive has informed fans of its figure action video game that the Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes play set will hit stores this autumn, and that characters from the much-anticipated film Guardians of the Galaxy will enable kids all around the world to live out their superhero fantasy.

The Toy Box world will include Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Gamora and Groot, as shown in the play set trailer below. The Toy Box 2.0 mode allows players to create their own custom campaigns and flesh out their own unique worlds.

Furthermore, players will also be able to use Iron Man from the Avengers play set and Nova from the Spider-Man set by used cross-over coins, needed to unlock the cross-franchise characters.

The Guardians of the Galaxy inspired addition to the upcoming Disney Infinity 2.0 will also feature Space Armor, Marvel Team-Up and Groot's Roots, which will be available once unlocked from the Power Discs included in the play set.

Disney set the release date for Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes for September 23 in North America, and pre-orders for the game will net players a free Marvel figure. Players who already own the original Disney Infinity game can opt to upgrade to Marvel Super Heroes through a digital download.

The expansion of the Toy Box with the Guardians of the Galaxy characters will surely be a blast, scoring another success for the ever-growing franchise. Disney Infinity has reportedly sold in excess of 3 million units since its launch last year, and the game's popularity is still on the rise, and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film can only add to the momentum.

The upcoming game will feature multiple stories, with each play set having its own plot. The Avengers one will center around defeating Loki and Modok, the Spider-Man play set will focus on Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Mysterio, and the Guardian of the Galaxy one will center around the Guardians stealing an Infinity Stone from Ronan the Accuser.

Since Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise, there have also been talks of including characters from the popular science fiction franchise in Disney Infinity, but no decisions have yet been made.

Furthermore, Marvel has announced that a playable Green Goblin, Loki and more will be available in the special Marvel Villains figurine set.

The action adventure video game is headed for the iOS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii U, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms, with a PlayStation Vita also scheduled for sometime in 2015.
