Microsoft adds new emoticons in its Skype client

Microsoft has rolled out Skype 7.6 for Windows desktop earlier today, and although the company is yet to provide a changelog for this new release, more information on what’s new in this build already emerges.

It turns out that the new versions of Skype, including those on other platforms than Windows desktop, come with new emoticons inspired by Disney and Pixar, which will be available for the next three months. At the same time, Microsoft has also added a bunch of other emoticons created by its own designers, which are again available on all platforms, including Android and iOS.

“All of us are guided by these Emotions of Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness in our daily lives. So whether you are feeling excited and on top of the world or having a bad day and getting frustrated at someone, these new emoticons will help express how you are feeling,” Microsoft says.

Available everywhere

Probably the best thing about these new emoticons is that they’re available on all versions of Skype, so you can use them on Windows desktop, Windows Phone, Android, or iOS devices as long as you are running the latest version of the application.

Keep in mind, however, that the Disney/Pixar emoticons, which are inspired by the latest movie “Inside Out,” will be available for only three months, so Microsoft will remove them once this period expires. On the other hand, its own emoticons will be there forever, so the dancing monkey will stick around for a little bit longer.

The latest version of Skype for Windows is also likely to bring other improvements, such as bug fixes and performance improvements, so if these emoticons are not reason enough for you to install it, maybe the other enhancements can convince you to do it.
