Buzz around Disney’s “Maleficent” has been building since the release of the first trailer, but we still have a little under 2 months to go until it opens in theaters. To keep us going until then, Disney has released a new featurette, which happens to include some new footage as well.

It is embedded below in full. It includes shots of Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, the leading ladies, and director Robert Stromberg talking about the meaning of the film and how they wanted to show the story of one of Disney’s most famous villains in a different light.

She said it before, but Jolie says it again: this film isn’t the Sleeping Beauty story we all know, but rather a retelling that will explain what made Maleficent so bad she felt like the only way she could come close to happiness was by placing a terrible curse on Aurora.

Unlike “Sleeping Beauty,” “Maleficent” is not animated, which should further help in making Maleficent’s story better resonate with audiences. From what we’ve seen so far, she turns evil because of the wrong done onto her, not by choice.

“Maleficent” will be out at the end of May and also stars Sharlto Copley and Juno Temple.
