Surprising absolutely no one, Walt Disney Animation Studios has confirmed a sequel to 2013’s box office and critical hit “Frozen,” now known under the working title “Frozen 2.” Rumors of a sequel have been around for months, mostly because no studio would ever make the bad financial call to NOT follow up on such a hit.

In between working on a smaller sequel, the short film “Frozen Fever,” which runs in theaters ahead of the live-action “Cinderella” starting today, Friday, March 13, 2015, Disney has also been setting everything in motion to deliver a proper sequel to the fans.

Official confirmation came during Walt Disney Co.’s annual shareholders meeting, held yesterday in San Francisco, trade publication Variety informs. Disney is yet to launch a public announcement for the film, though.

“Frozen 2” will most likely bring the entire cast back, including Olaf the snowman: actor Josh Gad, who voiced the character in the original film, was on hand for the announcement, joining Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter and Disney Chief Bob Iger.

Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will return to direct, and are already writing the script. They got double credit on the original film as well. Peter Del Vecho of Walt Disney Animation Studios will produce.

For the time being, Disney is yet to announce an official release date, but you would probably not be too far off to assume it would come out around Christmastime, either this year or the next.
