The first game that is actually... two games

It seems that, more than ever, people want to become music stars - and that thing is proven by the success of games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero. So, it only seems natural that companies start thinking about building new games based on the same idea - we already have a handful of music games announced for the Nintendo Wii console. And if this doesn't sound enough, Disney is planning to enter the competition, announcing the new title they're working on: Ultimate Band.

Basically, it will probably be the same as Rock Band or Guitar Hero - it's not a genre where you could come with some huge innovations, improvements or revolutionary concept. However, since you have to come with something new or, at least, a bit different, Disney has found the easy way: in Ultimate Band you won't have to use extra peripherals. The Wiimote and DS's stylus will do all the job for you - and only these, since the game will be a Nintendo exclusive for the Wii and DS consoles.

However, this is not the only thing that will make Disney's title different: each console version will be focusing on something else. For example, in the Wii version you will customize your own rock star (lead singer, bass guitarist, lead guitarist, or drummer) and play through his career, from garage gigs to international stadiums filled with fans. And a bit of roleplaying combined with a sim could never harm a game if it is done well.

The Nintendo DS version, on the other hand, will feature a recording studio built into the game that will allow players to create their own tunes. Hopefully, this is not a backup for some poor songs prepared to be launched with Ultimate Band.

Because... Disney gave no solid details regarding the music they'll bring to us. They only promised we'll have hit songs from "some of the biggest names in rock, alternative, popular, emo, and indie rock music" - and we all know this could mean anything. Oh, well... guess we have no other choice than to wait and see - the game is scheduled for a release during this year's holiday season.
