Guards will be quite vigilant in the new stealth game

Arkane Studios and Bethesda have posted a few more details about their upcoming Dishonored title, discussing the AI mechanics and the New Game+ mode that both motivate players to complete it multiple times in different play styles.

Dishonored is one of the most intriguing games set to appear this fall, with Bethesda and Arkane crafting a first-person experience that emphasizes assassination through any means imaginable - either stealth, brute force, or supernatural attacks.

After impressing plenty of people back at E3 2012 earlier this month, the two companies have started answering questions about the game.

First up, co-creators Harvey Smith and Raphael Colantonio have tackled the AI system and confirmed that once guards spot the player, they'll never completely ignore him.

"The AI has several states of “alertness“, so it goes from totally unsuspecting, to suspecting, to aware, to search, then it cools down to search patrol in high alert but it never cools down to the initial state. Also, AI communicate their level of alertness to allies within range and therefore they let each other know about the presence of the player when he’s been spotted," the two designers said.

The game also emphasizes going through it multiple times by limiting the amount of powers you can unlock and by offering a variety of endings, so a New Game+ mechanic is going to be built into it.

"We encourage multiple playthroughs with Dishonored as 1) you can’t get all the powers and upgrades in one playthrough, and 2) there are different endings based on how you play: surgical assassin or sneaker vs. brutal killer," the co-creators added.

Dishonored is looking quite promising, but we have to wait until October to see if it can deliver on its impressive promise. The game is out on October 9, in North America, October 12, in Europe, for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
