We all love fruit, and with the wide variety of choices available, it's not hard to find something we truly like. Fruit are probably the most straightforward food in this universe: they can be eaten as such, provided that we wash them properly beforehand, of course. We can add them to a million different dishes - desserts or proper, savory main courses - we can freeze them, blend them, squeeze them and basically enjoy their unique flavors at any time we choose to, whether it's early morning or the dead of night.
Under these circumstances, it's no wonder that we crave to taste more and more types of fruit - and with today's tendencies towards bringing exotic new foods and spices into our kitchens, here are some rather unusual but totally delicious ideas you could find useful.

The first time I heard of passion fruit it was in a cosmetics store, when I was browsing the shelves for a new shower gel. But although we may have heard of this delicious fruit, how many of us tried it first hand? Also known as purple granadilla, passion fruit has a distinctive, extremely pleasant smell, it is egg-shaped and purple, red, or yellow when mature. It also contains a high amount of vitamin A and C, potassium, and fiber - and even better, one fruit only adds up 16 calories to your daily count. The fruit are served chilled and sliced in half, after the seedy pulp in the middle was scooped out.

Ever heard of star fruit? Neither did we, until a short while ago. It comes from Southeast Asia, it's rich in vitamin C and has a pleasant, citrusy flavor. There's no need to peel or seed it, it can simply be eaten whole. A word of caution, though: if you have problems with your kidneys, stay away from it, as it contains kidney stone-forming oxalic acid. Finally, hands up those of you who eat papaya on a regular basis. Christopher Columbus first called this pair-shaped wonder the "fruit of the angels" - and no wonder he was so impressed with its soft, buttery flesh and peppery, edible seeds. One papaya fruit contains about 118 calories, plenty of vitamin C and an enzyme that helps protein digestion and prevents bloating. Add papaya to your daily diet, and enjoy its rich, sweet musky taste with a dash of lemon juice.
