Apple continues to sell the white, polycarbonate-encased MacBook via the Special Deals area of its web store, where customers can secure a refurbished unit for $849 ($150 off).

The white MacBook used to sell for $999 brand new until the MacBook Air made it irrelevant.

The ultra-thin MBA sells for the same price now, but is much more portable, and it’s more attractive from a visual point of view, and even from some performance standpoints.

However, the white MacBook is still a popular computer.

Originally released in May 2010 as an updated version of the first model to gain a unibody enclosure, the white MacBook boasts a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB (2 x 1GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, a 250GB Serial ATA drive spinning at 5400 rpm, an 8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory, and a built-in iSight camera.

The computer has a 13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display. The unibody shell has long been touted as a huge plus - much like the MacBook Pro family - even though it’s not made of aluminum, but from plastic.
