The Mighty Lords watch silently as their Disciples prepare for the daunting tasks ahead. Each warrior must engage in a struggle of swordplay, sorcery,
and uncommon courage in order to complete his sacred quests. In the heart of the fantasy kingdom of Nevandaar (or the Sacred Lands as you may know it) four races battle for survival and dominance: the Empire (humans), the Mountain Clans (dwarves), the Undead Hordes (undead obviously) and the Legions of the Damned (demons). The TBS at hand created back in the 1999 by Strategy First was one of the main contestants for the game of the year next to Heroes of Might and Magic III. Of course Heroes III won and Disciples got only a moderate number of fans. Yet no one can dispute the great gameplay that Disciples was offering. Unlike its competitor, this game was concentrating on small parties of strong individual units. These units could only be recruited at the first level and they would gain experience in battles. Just like in HOMM III, you have a capital city where you can do all the recruiting, the bloody battle maps where magic, melee and archery mastery would pay off and of course the adventure map that allows your army to travel and claim new lands. The Sacred Lands are turned to reflect the god's will of your choice by planting rods (using the Rod Bearer hero) on the ground that would transform the surrounding in just one turn.
Disciples allowed the player to select five different types of heroes (Warrior, Mage, Guild Master, Rod Bearer and Thief) as well as set a different type of mana for each race in the game (life, runic, death and infernal). This was a pretty complex game and the experience gaining during battles along with the units' upgrades using an upgrade tree somewhat similar to the ones in RPGs was a great idea. For the fans of the Sacred Lands a list of cheats follows. I know you loved the game and you probably don't have the same patience as before to play fair.
