Codemasters has just announced a couple of big surprises for fans of its upcoming Dirt Showdown title, pinning a release date on the racing game, confirming that a demo will arrive soon and that a special online service will accompany Showdown and all future Dirt titles.

The Dirt series has delighted millions of racing fans from all over the world with their top-notch racing gameplay.

With Dirt Showdown, Codemasters is now trying to take the franchise into a new, more action-oriented direction, featuring destruction derbies, stunt events, and all sorts of other competitions.

After showcasing plenty of videos and screenshots, the studio, which has just been renamed into Codemasters Racing, has confirmed that Dirt Showdown will come out on May 24, in Europe, May 25, in the UK, and May 29, in North America.

What’s more, before that, a special demo with both a single-player and a multiplayer race will be released across the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, on May 1.

Besides the actual events, the demo for Dirt Showdown will invite players to join a new online service called RaceNet.

“RaceNet will launch in beta as an evolving interactive community platform for Codemasters Racing games and allow fans to track their Races, Rivals and Rewards,” the studio said.

Last but not least, UK fans of Dirt Showdown can now pre-order a special Hoonigan edition of the title from retailer Game. It includes “an in-game cash boost, an online XP multiplier plus Monster Energy liveries for the Kohler D350, Duke Coupe and Ford Fiesta Gymkhana 3 and Hoonigan liveries for the Holbrook Growler, Logan Vulture and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X JUN(as seen in the ‘Ultimate Hoonigan’ video), redeemed via an online code.”

Expect to hear some more details about Dirt Showdown and Codemasters Racing in general in the near future. Until then, look forward to the demo next month.
