Controversy arose after 20-year-old student Catarina Migliorini announced she was set to auction off her virginity and donate all proceeds to charity.

The Brazilian beauty angered non-governmental organizations after linking them to her unusual charity event. Catarina became involved in the auction after director and producer Justin Sisely posted an ad on the website for those who wished to star in his upcoming movie, Virgins Wanted.

Auctions for the virginity of the girl and of a young boy are currently being hosted by the site, as part of the filming process for the documentary. Male virgin Alex Stepanov has also offered his services for the making of the video.

The Australian filmmaker and director of the Virgins Wanted flick talked about his 2-year struggle with completing his project. His documentary is meant to shed light on young men and women's emotional issues with making that decisive step to adulthood.

Catarina posted her ad on the Virgins Wanted website, claiming she is to renounce all earnings, which will then be used by a non-governmental organization that offers modern housing to impoverished families in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

As early bidding reached $190,000 for Catarina's deflowering, news outlets started covering the story, making the young girl an Internet sensation.

According to the Huffington Post, the organizer of the auction is trying to expose the girl's attempt at fluffing this up to be a cause or a fundraising event.

"I was surprised she said that because in all my dealings with her, she made it clear that it was a business decision for her," Sisley stated about the girl's intentions.

Though Catarina is free to use her earnings as she sees fit, as Brazilian law does not deem this initiative prostitution, she is facing public scrutiny by those following up on the story, to see if she makes good on her promise.

"Now, given how big this story is in Brazil, she's trapped. If she doesn't give any money to charity, she's going to look bad," Sisley explained.

When the auction comes to an end, on October 15, Catarina stands to make $20,000 (€15,000) and 90% of total earnings, that come as a result of selling her virginity, NY Daily News informed.
