Not for Windows Vista

Microsoft customers running a licensed copy of Windows operating system validated as such by the Windows Genuine Advantage tool, are eligible for DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer, announced the Redmond Company on the 8/4/2006. The latest DirectX represent a Microsoft update to its 9.0c variant as well as to previous versions of DirectX. With this release, Microsoft has upgraded its Windows interfaces graphic emulation software for accessing low-level interfaces, frame buffer and advanced features of the display adapter, delivering high-speed multimedia and games to the PC.

"The DirectX end-user installation includes all the latest and previous released DirectX runtime. This includes the bi-monthly D3DX, XInput, and Managed DirectX components. The DirectX runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Me and Windows XP users turn on a "System Restore" point before installing. The DirectX Redist is recommended for those users that do not have internet connection during installation or need to reinstall the DirectX 9.0c core runtime," reads a message posted on Microsoft's Website describing the service.

DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer delivers a conglomerate of technologies designed to accommodate applications rich with multimedia elements, generating a displaying full-color graphics, video and 3D animation and complex audio on Windows-based platforms. The new security and performance updates included in Microsoft's DirectX release can be tapped by applications running DirectX APIs.

Microsoft's DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer is not meant for Windows Vista as the only supported operating systems are: "Windows 2000; Windows 2000 Advanced Server; Windows 2000 Professional Edition ; Windows 2000 Server; Windows 2000 Service Pack 2; Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows 98; Windows 98 Second Edition; Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Server 2003, Datacenter x64 Edition; Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition; Windows Server 2003, Standard x64 Edition; Windows Small Business Server 2003 ; Windows XP; Windows XP 64-bit; Windows XP Home Edition ; Windows XP Media Center Edition; Windows XP Professional Edition ; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows XP Starter Edition; Windows XP Tablet PC Edition."
