After hyping up the upcoming DirectX 12 update for the Xbox One, Microsoft has now released a statement to curb the enthusiasm of fans about what the new technology can actually do with the console.

The Xbox One came out last November and it was soon obvious that Microsoft's console can't really keep up with the PS4 in terms of game performance, as quite a lot of titles had to sacrifice resolution or framerate to run well on the former device.

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that it was going to bring the DirectX technology to the Xbox One and this should generate a massive performance increase.

Now, however, Microsoft's Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, has gone on Twitter to confirm that, while DirectX 12 will help developers squeeze more from the console, it won't herald a massive change for the Xbox One.

"It will help developers on Xbox One. It's not going to be a massive change but will unlock more capability for devs," he said.

As of yet, however, the technology doesn't even have a concrete release date for the Xbox One, so who knows when more power will be available to developers. Until then, Microsoft is making smaller increments through firmware updates for the devkit editions of the console.
