14 DAY TRIAL // DirectX 12, the upcoming API that's included in the Windows 10 operating system for PC and Xbox One, includes a special tool made by Microsoft to help Xbox One game developers optimize their titles much more easily for the console's controversial eSRAM, according to Stardock, one of the developers currently working on a game using DirectX 12.
Microsoft presented Windows 10 to the world last year, and earlier this year quite a lot of different details have been shared by the corporation about the operating system and the special DirectX 12 API that should make the OS much better when it comes to running games on PC or Xbox One.
DirectX 12 brings a tool to ease eSRAM use
After confirming that DirectX 12 comes with a brand-new mechanic that deals with the Xbox One eSRAM, Stardock CEO Brad Wardell now mentions that Microsoft is also supplying an automated tool that helps developers optimize their games to use the eSRAM as well as possible.
According to Wardell, the32MB of rapid memory causes plenty of headaches for developers, and this has already resulted in multi-platform games running worse on Xbox One than on PS4.
As such, in order to help developers make their games use the eSRAM more efficiently, a special tool is included in DirectX 12 on Windows 10.
"They released a new tool, it’s this optimization tool that will actually algorithmically try to come up with an optimization for the developer. So instead of the developer trying to hand set-up what uses eSRAM, they have their own app to try and do as much of it for them as they can. In DirectX12 they’ve tried to make it easier to make use with and the easier it is to use, the more likely you’re going to get developers who optimize for it correctly," he tells GamingTheater.
Wardell previously went on the record saying that DirectX 12 won't automatically make games perform better on Xbox One when it debuts, but it seems that things will take a turn for the better when it eventually launches with Windows 10 this summer.
