Seven years after the third installment of the 'Jurassic Park' franchise and fifteen years after the original movie came out, 2008 will be the great year in which we'll be happy to witness yet another dinosaurs-filled thriller/action movie. Why, you ask? Because Universal Pictures thought it would be a marvelous idea to make yet another follow-up to the same story that, for some, has lost its charm and originality since the end of the '90s. And because, apparently, dinoz with weaponz are really something that we'd want to see.
When 'Jurassic Park' first came out in 1993, Spielberg's pet project was the best thing ever: it had a plot that hadn't yet been approached (at least, not on such an impressive scale), it had earthshaking special effects, it had great acting and, first and foremost, it had all those dinos that really made your panties shiver with fear. Of course, since then, things changed a bit: now we're more accustomed to seeing out of this world things and creatures on the big screen and the idea of the killer dinos has already been exploited to the max, both in television and in big feature films.
Then again, Universal would beg to differ from whatever it is you might think: they can (and will, of course) carry forth the legacy of the dinosaurs. Which can only be a good thing for die-hard fans of the original movie and its many sequels, even if movie critics are already, well, not exactly trembling with excitement. So, for fans, here's the good news: the studio has already begun casting for 'Jurassic Park IV' and shooting has been scheduled to begin later this year in Hawaii.
But it's more the plot, than anything else, that makes one baffled. Because the genre is, as I've already mentioned, exhausted, it seems that screenwriters Michael Crichton and William Monahan came up with a brilliant idea of not only bringing the dinosaurs back but also of making them a force to be reckoned with. Plot rumors have it that it was the US government that managed to recreate the dinos from some left-over cells - but they didn't stop here, either. Locked up in large and isolated cells, the creatures are also genetically conditioned to be smarter than their predecessors, and even to carry guns.
Apparently, the whole idea was to train the monsters and use them as some sort of secret weapon, but the whole experiment gets out of hand when they, the intelligent dinos, break free from the controlling humans and start doing justice all on their own. Which, in their case, means killing those who once had such complete control over them - meaning, people.
So, this is is: 'Jurassic Park' will bring big dinoz with even bigger weaponz. As expected, the always inventive and courageous humans will find a way to defeat them. Hopefully. If this got you even in the least interested in the sequel to the sequel to the sequel, stay tuned here for more. With such an interesting plot, I'll surely be keeping an eye on this project. Trust.
