Developers looking for an example on how to build a connected application by bundling together a range of Microsoft technologies have DinnerNow available, courtesy of Habib Heydarian, program manager, Visual Studio Debugger. What do you get? Nothing more and nothing less than an online marketplace meant to illustrate just what kind of Cloud-based projects can be built by leveraging Microsoft solutions. At the end of the past week, Heydarian announced that version 3.0 of DinnerNow.net 3.0 was available. Being an open-source project housed on CodePlex, the source code for DinnerNow.net 3.0 is also up for grabs.

“The 3.0 release of DinnerNow.net is primarily about adding support for new Microsoft updates, bug fixes and some clean up work. Here is a summary of the changes. You can read about these changes in more detail in the following sections. Support for new Microsoft updates and service packs. A single master solution that contains all of the DinnerNow files. Bug fixes,” Heydarian explained.

Developers will be able to integrate and use DinnerNow.net 3.0 with Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1; Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (32-bit); Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (32-bit); SQL Server 2005 Express Service Pack 3 (32-bit) and Internet Explorer 8 (32-bit). Worth noting is the fact that the latest releases of Microsoft technologies are not supported. These include: Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows Server 2008 64-bit, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6 or earlier, IIS 6 or earlier, and Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1.

Still, Heydarian said that “DinnerNow.net 3.0 has not been tested with the versions of Windows and/or Visual Studio [mentioned above]. However, since the complete source code for DinnerNow.net is available, you are more than welcome to try using DinnerNow.net with these and fix any issues that come up.”

With version 3.0, DinnerNow bring to the table a single master solution designed to package all projects and supporting files. According to Heydarian DinnerNow 3.0 centralizes no less than 31 projects and over 500 files.
