Dr. Phil called Dina Lohan, mother of former child star turned troubled young woman Lindsay Lohan, the “worst mother possible” for pushing her daughter into showbiz at 11. In a new interview, Dina goes on the defensive.

Speaking with the NY Daily News, Dina tries to explain that, having come from a family of entertainers, she thought her children should go down that route as well.

She will not admit to doing anything wrong (not necessarily by making them get into the business but rather by putting their career above their well-being), but she admits she would probably choose differently if offered a second chance.

“I was born into the business… My mother was an entertainer. It was natural. But yes, in the next life, I might not do it,” she says.

Mrs. Lohan also admits that Lindsay has been drinking recently, even though she’s an alcoholic and did several stints in rehab in a bid to kick her addiction.

“My 80-year-old mother was there, and she’s Italian-American, and to be able to have a glass of red wine there for her is normal for our family,” Dina says.

She’s talking about reports that, on her birthday, Lindsay downed vodka cocktails like there was no tomorrow. In reality, Dina stresses, she was only drinking wine.

“Some people who want to quit drinking do it cold turkey and some do it gradually — you want to keep a balance. I don’t know what’s a right way or a wrong way,” she says.

In the same interview, Dina insists that Lindsay is being set or, at least, being pushed to do things she wouldn’t otherwise do, like her most recent trouble with the law where she allegedly hit a pedestrian and then fled the scene of the accident.

She believes her assistant Gavin may have a hand in all this.

I don’t party with Lindsay,” Dina goes on to say, addressing yet another very circulated rumor.

“In the early years, I would go with her to clubs, because I wanted to see who the enablers were,” she says of the times when she was photographed stumbling out of clubs with her daughter.

The irony of it all is that many consider Dina Lindsay’s biggest enabler.
