Lindsay Lohan is officially back to work: after years of doing nothing but promo work and magazine spreads, she is shooting for a new film, the made-for-TV “Liz & Dick,” an Elizabeth Taylor biopic. Her mom and manager Dina Lohan believes there could be no better choice for the part.

Dina, perhaps one of the most vilified mothers in the industries – partly because many believe her to be responsible for Lindsay's troubled years as a teen and an adult – sat down with Access Hollywood to talk about her daughter's new project.

Video of it is below.

Without a doubt, this is Lindsay's final chance at proving the world that she is as she claims: more than just a celebrity and paparazzi magnet, a respectable and serious thespian first and foremost.

Regardless of what others have to say about choosing Lindsay to play such an iconic actress, her mother thinks no better alternative was possible.

[She’s] very prepared, she’s very excited. She’s so excited to do this and it’s such an honor to play Liz Taylor,” Dina says.

As she sees it, Lindsay and Liz have a lot in common, from the way people scrutinize their personal life and then come up with lies about it, to how dedicated they were to their craft.

“There’s so many similarities [between them]… the tabloids, they attacked [Liz] as well. She’s really learned a lot, she’s grown up a lot,” Dina says.

Asked whether she was ever in denial about the extent of her daughter's issues, the momager denies it. Of course she always maintained the contrary of what the tabloids were saying and was then forced to eat her words, but that's only because it was her duty to defend her child.

“This town is tough… Lindsay is 25, so it’s for her to talk about her demise, or whatever was going on at the time,” she says.

“I felt as a mother, yes, I’m going to protect my children publicly, privately, I kick their [backside]. I’m a single mom, of course I do!” Dina adds.
