14 DAY TRIAL // We can't say that anyone was surprised when Dina Lohan, Lindsay Lohan's mother, got busted in Long Island, New York for driving under the influence back in September last year. But if her daughter has managed to somehow win the graces of judges all over the country, the same can't be said of her mother who just got ripped in court by the judge handling her case.
TMZ reports that the judge presiding, Judge Engel, had some very harsh words for Dina when he gave her the sentence. In his view, Dina was as close to a killer as anyone can get because of her actions and that she was very lucky no one had died in the incident.
He said in court that “The only person responsible for this ordeal is Miss Lohan. She is just lucky nobody was killed. She may not be as lucky next time.” Upon hearing this, Dina prophetically replied, “There will not be a next time.”
Experience has taught us that the Lohan family simply can't stay away from scandal and trouble and that promises made often end up being broken.
As for Dina, she was sentenced to 100 hours of community service after she pleaded guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated back in April. The 51-year-old mother told the judge that she was speeding because she was trying to get away from paparazzi who were chasing her at the time. The judge accepted this excuse and reduced her speeding charge, resulting in just 3 points of penalty on her license instead of the original 9.
Apart from the community service, Dina will also have to undergo a 16-hour drunk-driving program as well as have a device installed in her car, which is aimed at preventing her from driving while under the influence. The device is supposed to cut off the ignition on the car if Dina fails a Breathalyzer test.
As a final punitive measure, Dina will have her license revoked for a year and will be under probation. Breaking the law during that probation means an increased chance of going to jail.
All of these seem to have spooked Dina onto the straight path, but the same can't be said about her daughter Lindsay who is now believed to have relapsed into alcoholism after she was seen stumbling drunkenly at several events, weeks after she completed her stint in rehab. Not that it was her first one.
