Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg.com, claims to have spoken with a reliable source who allegedly told him that Apple is launching its next-generation tablet computer in the next three to four weeks.

The device’s screen allegedly has a higher pixel density, though not as high as to make it a Retina display, Rose said.

iPad 2 will also come with dual cameras, according to the well placed source cited by Kevin, which corroborates pretty much every rumor surrounding the unconfirmed tablet computer.

In a post to Rose’s foundat.io/n newsletter, the Digg founder wrote:

“I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next "3-4 weeks", possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.

If you're thinking of buying an iPad, hold off for now.

UPDATE: Spoke w/another source, the display has a 'higher dpi', but not technically a retina display. This seems odd to me, we'll have to wait and see..”

There is widespread belief that Apple will introduce a new version of its popular tablet computer at an event in February.

The Cupertino giant is expected to introduce a higher-specced device, boasting a revamped enclosure akin to that of its third-generation iPod touch, a rear-facing speaker, dual cameras for FaceTime support, as well as new ports, including the ever-missed USB.

Several case manufacturers took the liberty to craft / procure iPad 2 mockups to promote their accessories at CES this week.

The hardware seems consistent with the rumors dishing out the specs enumerated above.

Kevin Rose has been known to accurately predict Apple-related rumors, albeit with a few missed prognostications here and there.
