The Princess died a second death with this horrible, cringeworthy release, they say

“Diana,” the highly anticipated Princess Diana biopic with Naomi Watts as lead, opened at Cannes and earned solid reviews. Critics in the UK are not loving it, calling it the worst thing that could have happened to the legacy of the beloved Princess.

Above is the official trailer, to help you get a feel of the film.

Critics who’ve seen it think you’d be better off skipping it, because neither the acting nor the script is good enough to do justice to the real thing.

“Despite a peroxide hair-job, [Watts] looks, sounds and acts nothing like the Princess of Wales. Wesley Snipes in a blonde wig would be more convincing,” the Daily Mirror writes.

“Poor Princess Diana. I hesitate to use the term ‘car crash cinema.’ But the awful truth is that, 16 years after that terrible day in 1997, she has died another awful death. This is due to an excruciatingly well-intentioned, reverential and sentimental biopic about her troubled final years, laced with bizarre cardboard dialogue – a tabloid fantasy of how famous and important people speak in private,” The Guardian says.

The Times goes on to point out that the dialog is absolutely horrible, including lines “you never, ever want to hear Diana, Princess of Wales say.” Overall, the film is “atrocious” and “intrusive,” a complete waste of time.

We’re not going to get here into the age-old debate of whether we should pay any attention to what critics are saying about a movie before deciding if we want to pay to see it in theaters, so I will ask you directly: will you be seeing it this fall?
