Silicon Power made good on its status as purveyor of various storage devices and decided it was time to unleash a new solid state drive, one that is meant to be brought along everywhere and has the looks to match.

By now, it is already clear that sold state drives, as a product concept at least, have withstood the test of time and will keep doing so for a long while.

Their high transfer speeds compared to HDDs, even despite the much lower capacities, have allowed them to steal a significant portion of the latter's market share.

One of the types of SSDs that have been seeing a solid consumer adoption is the category of portable units.

Thanks to the data transfer rates of the latest universal serial bus standard, they have been able to read and write at impressive speeds even without the bandwidth of SATA 6.0 Gbps.

One of the newest 2.5-inch portable SSDs to make their way over to the market is the Diamond D05 from Silicon Power.

Made official less than a day ago, it measures 124.8 x 75.8 x 13.6 mm (has the 2.5-inch form factor) and stands out from the fold thanks to the case, though its other attributes are none too shabby either.

To elaborate, the operational temperature is of 5 to 55 degrees Celsius and the capacity ranges from 500 GB to 1 TB.

Nonetheless, the scratch-resistant, metallic grain surface of the enclosure is the most likely to catch the eye of prospective buyers.

Unfortunately, despite the ovations Silicon Power brought the D05 in its press release, the company did not say when sales will start or at what price.

Until it does, those that are looking for something even smaller can check out the Touch 835 flash drive, that was presented last week or the faster Marvel M60.
