Branch resiliency is one of the key advantages touted by Microsoft for the latest iteration of unified communications platform which was rebranded from Office Communication Server to Lync Server. As Lync 2010 was launched on November 17th, Dialogic also released the Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) software designed to enhance Dialogic 4000 Media Gateway Series.

It is the SBA that will enable employees in branch offices for companies running Lync Server 2010 and DMG4000 Gateways to continue using core communications functionality even in the context of a data center failure or if the office’s WAN link is lost.

“Adding Survivable Branch Appliance software to our DMG4000 Gateways enables customers in branch offices to use key communication features, even when disconnected from the central Lync Server 2010 datacenter,” explained Franz-Josef Eberle, Vice President and General Manager of Dialogic’s Enterprise Group.

Branch resiliency means that customers will have the option to make and receive voice calls, but also enjoy additional capabilities, although of course, not at the same level as if running under normal parameters.

But in addition to voice call, voicemail, intra-office screen sharing, instant messaging, audio conferencing will continue to be available in branch offices via the DMG4000 Gateways with SBA software.

“This functionality is important for delivering UC solutions built on Lync Server 2010,” Eberle added.

Customers already running DMG4000 Gateways will be able to access the Survivable Branch Appliance as a software upgrade.

The release is offered through Dialogic’s authorized distributors and their resellers, and this is also valid for the software package which can be used to field upgrade DMG4000 Gateways

“Enabling existing Microsoft Office Communications Server customers currently using DMG4000 Gateways with a software upgrade path to Lync Server 2010 is extremely important, and will help our mutual customers rapidly adopt the Survivable Branch Appliance,” added Yancey Smith, director of product management, Microsoft Lync.
