Diablo III is still not confirmed for a release on consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, but Blizzard is confident that it will deliver a quality experience, worthy of its brand.

Diablo III has finally gotten a launch date for its PC and Mac versions, as it will arrive on May 15, after plenty of delays and loose release schedules.

Its PS3 or Xbox 360 versions, however, are still a mystery, as developer Blizzard doesn’t even want to confirm that it’s actually making them right now.

Based on the continued “exploration” of Diablo III on consoles, Blizzard Chief Operating Officer Paul Sams believes that, if the game appears, it’s going to deliver a quality experience, worthy of the studio’s name.

"We're continuing to explore [Diablo 3 on consoles]," he told CVG. "We think that the way we built it for the PC may need some tweaking, but it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console.”

Sams emphasizes that Blizzard’s strategy is always focused on creating great games and then worrying about what platforms they’ll appear on.

"We get a lot of questions about why we haven't made a game for consoles before and I tell them the same thing I tell them about business models: we don't let business models or platforms drive our decisions. Those are secondary to what's the most important aspect for us which is the gameplay."

"We have to make sure the game is great and it's something that everyone wants to play. We don't decide up front that we want to make a console product. We just want to make a great game. If the best experience involves a mouse and a keyboard, we'll put it on PC. If it plays better with a controller, that's the route we'd take. If it works on both, and we don't have to make any meaningful alterations or compromises to the experience, we'd make it for both."

Blizzard admitted in the past that, from all of its franchises, the Diablo one made the most sense on consoles, so you can be sure that after this exploration is done, the studio will try to bring Diablo III on more platforms besides the PC and Mac.
