Doug Creutz, who is an analyst watching the video game industry for Cowen & Company, has officially confirmed that Diablo III, the action role-playing game from developer Blizzard, has managed to sell 1 million units at retail in May on the United States market.

The analyst has also revealed that Max Payne 3, the third-person shooter from Rockstar, and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, another game in the same genre, have each managed to sell 400,000 units during the month, making them the top console releases for the period.

Both Take Two and Ubisoft initially estimated that they would each get about 200,000 more in sales during the first month.

Blizzard has already released figures showing that Diablo III has become the biggest selling Pc game of all time, with more than 6 million copies moved to players.

Blizzard has never confirmed it but the company is also working on console versions of the game.
