Wyatt Cheng, the technical designer working on Diablo III, says that his team has big plans for the cooperative aspect of the game, with a raft of changes prepared for the upcoming patch 1.0.8, designed to make it more attractive to players.

In an official blog post, the developer states that, “From day one, it’s been our goal to make Diablo III a great co-op experience, but right now it's not living up to its full potential. Even if you enjoy playing with your friends, it can often feel easier and more efficient to play solo.”

Blizzard believes that most Diablo III players choose single-player experiences because they have freedom when it comes to moving through the game and they can easily farm for an item that they need without communicating their intent to another player.

Cooperative multiplayer is avoided mostly because Blizzard has failed to include a complex matchmaking system and too often groups fail to coordinate after they begin to explore a level.

Cheng adds, “The point is that multiplayer can be lot of fun, but given the downsides it can often feel not worth the effort. By making it easier for players to find one another, improving social features, and providing direct buffs to co-op groups, we hope to change that perspective.”

The blog post from Blizzard then goes on to explain the way it will modify cooperative play in patch 1.0.8 for Diablo III.

As always, fans of the game are encouraged to offer their feedback on the proposed changes.

It’s impressive to see that Blizzard still wants to improve the Diablo III experience almost one year after it launched.

During the PlayStation 4 reveal event in New York, Blizzard announced that it would bring its action role-playing game to the new Sony device when it launches in the fall.
