Video game developer Blizzard announces that Diablo III is set to launch on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 home consoles on September 3, with a number of tweaks designed to take advantage of the unique nature of the platforms.

Gamers who place a pre-order for the new title will get access to an exclusive item, the Infernal Helm, which offers an experience gain bonus for new characters.

The redeem code requires an Internet connection and cannot be transferred between the two platforms.

Because the Xbox 360 version of Diablo III was just announced, retailers might need a few days before offering pre-orders.

Diablo III has been released on the PC for more than one year and the team at Blizzard is planning to continue to deliver balance updates.

Yesterday, the studio announced that Josh Mosqueira had been appointed the new game director.
