Alleged Diablo III Demo Out in the Wild

- Website announces leaked beta demo

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

Everybody knows that Blizzard has been working on a new Diablo sequel for a while (some of the rumors must be true!) but what we had no idea about was the possibility of a
demo hitting the Internet this year. It seems that, according to the less known website Revolution, an official demo of the most anticipated hack and slash title of all times has leaked on a file sharing website (but don't just take it for granted, it could be nothing but a hoax).

Screenshots from the demo's gameplay are posted on the website, as well as one from the demo download page, where no less than 518 votes are recorded and apparently nobody complains it's a fake. The supposedly leaked demo of Diablo III is from the official beta test of the game but there are no details on what you are allowed to do while playing. One fact that would make us believe it's nothing but a fake is that the "demo" is only 568.9 MB, which is very close in size to the full gameplay trailer released by Blizzard (available for download here). Also, another file is available on a few torrent sites (676MB and Alpha status) claiming that it is the real Diablo 3 demo. Again, this is nothing but a rumor.

So, it could be nothing but a misunderstanding or an intentional mistake made by a website willing to get some attention. However, should this demo be for real, it would not only be a huge bonus for all the fans out there, but it would also prove that Diablo III might be closer to the release date than Blizzard wants us to believe. Either way, it is something we'll check and keep you updated. If it is a real demo, it's the biggest leak of the year!

Diablo III was officially announced this Sunday and we have the whole report on the story here. You might also want to check out our "Everything we know on Diablo 3" feature here for all the details about this great PC exclusive game. And remember to visit Softpedia soon and find out if the rumored demo is for real.

UPDATE: As anticipated, the "leaked" demo is nothing but the gameplay video released by Blizzard. Rumor busted.

Well it seems that some people will have some egg on their face after this. The alleged Diablo III demo leak is nothing more than the gameplay trailer launched at WWI.
