Blizzard has pledged to solve an array of scams that have begun affecting Diablo 3 players who use the Trade Window option in order to exchange gear and/or gold with others, saying that a fix is going to be included in a future patch, probably 1.0.4.
Diablo 3 has been released for almost three months and, in that time, Blizzard has had to stomp out exploits
, solve bugs
, and increase the security
of the online game.
Now, as more and more people are reporting various scams that involve manipulating the window that appears when the Trade option is selected with a fellow player in the game, the studio has promised that it’s going to release a special fix soon enough.
“We are definitely aware of the scams you and other players have reported and are working on improvements to the Trade window that should help prevent those types of scams from occurring in the future,” one of Blizzard’s community managers told Battle.net forum members.
“I’ve spoken with our developers about this issue, and I can assure you that they're passionate about finding a resolution and making it so that players can feel safe and confident about trading with each other again.”
Sadly, these fixes take time to test and implement, so it’s still going to be a while before players can trade with others in the game without fearing a possible scam.
“Unfortunately, the kinds of improvements we're making cannot be implemented via hotfix and instead require a full client patch, so please don’t think that because we haven’t made any changes yet that we do not consider this is a priority. We're hoping to get these improvements in as soon as possible (i.e. with 1.0.4), but keep in mind that sometimes schedules can change due to testing and implementation needs,” the manager added.
Until the fix is released, Blizzard advises players to look for early signs of scams and always be cautious when trading with players they’ve just met in public games.
