The development team at Blizzard is continuing to tease players of Diablo 3 who are looking forward to the Reaper of Souls expansion by delivering more information on the town of Westmarch and the unique challenges it will hold.

The story starts two and half centuries before the world of the game, according to an official blog post from the studio.

They state, “at a time when the Zakarum faith was quickly gaining momentum, the empire of Kehjistan was beset by a myriad of troubles. From famine and disease to rioting amongst the citizenry, the stage was set for a new faith to rise and stoke the fires of hope in the hearts of the desperate.”

Fans of Diablo 3 lore will be happy to read much more on the town and on how it became a nexus for conflict, the center point for a crusade and then the home of the most impressive fortifications in the world.

Westmarch is close to one of the lost cities of the Nephalem.

The team adds, “This location holds undeniable power, and few have managed to pry secrets from its ancient corridors. The greatest quality the lost city is said to possess, however, is remarkable warding against the trespass of both angels and demons.”

The Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo 3 is designed to add an entirely new playable class, the Crusdader, as well as a set of enemies that will test even the most capable of players.

Blizzard is also promising that the new content will introduce new ways to make sure that equipment remains relevant to a character even as he levels up.

The launch of the expansion will also mark the moment when the Auction House for the game is shut down.

Reaper of Souls will be launched on the PC and on the PlayStation 4 in 2014.
