Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition is the first video game in the long-running series of hack and slash titles created by Blizzard that has managed to take the number one position on the United Kingdom video game market.

The accomplishment is even more impressive considering that all the sales linked to it have been delivered on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and last-gen consoles, platforms that have not traditionally been associated with the genre.

The Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo 3 was delivered on the PC earlier in the year.

The third full title in the franchise was first introduced in May 2012 and only managed to reach second place in the United Kingdom.

Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition delivers a huge amount of content for gamers to explore, and just as it arrives, Blizzard will also launch the major patch 2.1.0 for the game, which is designed to introduce a series of tweaks and fixes, including the new Greater Rifts feature and the first Season of competitive play.

Data from UKIE shows that 47 percent of all sales for the game were linked to the PlayStation 4, which is great news for Sony, while the Xbox One version accounted for about 32% of them.

The Last of Us: Remastered has been dethroned from its number one position, but it is still performing well and stays in second place, showing that a good game, even if it is only offered on the PlayStation 4, can generate a lot of sales.

Developer Naughty Dog has suggested that it might add some more multiplayer-focused content and updates to the title, while they shift most of their resources to the creation of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which will arrive on the PS4 in 2015.

Another big surprise for the week that ended on August 23 is the rise of Plants versus Zombies: Garden Warfare, which has used its launch on the PlayStation 4 and the PS3 to move to the last position of the podium coming from outside of the top ten.

The Xbox 360 version of indie hit Minecraft is in fourth place, followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, the first-person shooter from developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision.

Watch Dogs is in sixth, and seventh place belongs to the PlayStation 3 version of Minecraft.

Grand Theft Auto V continues to sit in ninth, and the United Kingdom chart is closed down by the new entry Tales of Xillia 2.
