There's also a limited number of class tweaks planned

Video game developer Blizzard announces that it is actively working on patch 2.2.0 for Diablo 3 and that it plans to launch it soon on the Public Test Region, with a range of improvements to classes, bounties, Rifts and more.

The studio says that one of the main additions coming to the title is a range of new sets which can compete with the most powerful ones already present at the moment.

Unhallowed Essence, Wrath of the Wastes and Delsere's Magnum Opus will be introduced in the new patch, and there are also redesigns coming to Zunimassa's Haunt, Raiment of a Thousand Storms, Roland's Legacy, Tal Rasha's Elements, Inna's Mantra, Natalya's Vengeance, and Immortal King's Call.

15 new Legendary powers are also added to Diablo 3, including one created by the community, which does not yet have a name.

Blizzard is also aiming to introduce new Rift tilesets based on the Fields of Misery and Festering Woods from Act I, Stinging Winds from Act II and Fields of Slaughter from Act III, all of them with randomized map layouts.

Diablo 3 is also getting 20 new bounties and the developers state, "We're also introducing a brand new type of bounty to the game: Exploration. As the name implies, these new bounties involve exploring an area and finding people who need to be rescued (if they're good guys) or slain (if they're not). You'll see 14 bounties of this type across all Acts in the game."

The patch is not focused on making class changes

Unlike other major Diablo 3 patches, there are no plans to introduce major tweaks to the classes and only small changes will be made to certain skills, with targets including the Crusader's Punish skill, Witch Doctor's Fetish Sycophants skill, and active Sentries for the Demon Hunter.

Blizzard is also adding more goblin types, another interface to deal with cosmetics and a new file system, called CASC for Content Addressable Storage Container.

The studio makes it clear that development on patch 2.2.0 for Diablo 3 is still ongoing and the details linked to the changes might be modified in order to deliver a better experience for players when the update is live.

For the time being, no ETA is offered either for the PTR or the full game, but given Blizzard’s pace, gamers will probably have to wait until late spring.
