The team wants to avoid such instances in the future

The development team at Blizzard in charge of Diablo 3 announces that it has decided to launch the new major patch 2.1.2 for the action role-playing title three weeks before the rollout process for the Season mode and says that this move will have a number of consequences for all fans of the title.

The company explains in an official Battle.net post that it considered two potential options for the interaction between the update and the mode and explains how both of them would have affected the community.

Blizzard says that its overall philosophy is that “our goal is to avoid implementing major balance changes towards the end of a Season. Ideally, patches and significant hotfixes will occur between Seasons or early enough in the Season that players have ample time to adjust to the new environment.”

Because this was not possible, at the moment gamers will get the Diablo 3 patch 2.1.2 before the Season implementation, which will give the community time to adjust to the changes that are being introduced, even if the leaderboards will be affected.

Diablo 3 will rely on Season play in the future

Blizzard also makes clear that the first Season was a solid learning experience for the company and that they aim to offer a much better transition process at the end of Season 2.

The studio adds, “Our intent for future Seasons is to have the current Season end, the corresponding patch deployed, and then the following Season start - in that order. While we will not be able to do that for this inaugural Season rollover, this will be our plan for all rollovers moving forward.”

Diablo 3 was criticized by a lot of fans of the series when it was launched, but Blizzard never stopped making improvements to the experience and many core mechanics were wholly transformed.

The launch of the Reaper of Souls expansion and the port of the game to home consoles led to even more sales, and since then the entire community has received a number of solid updates, some of which introduced new modes, such as the Season one.
