Dexter, the serial killer of Showtime's hit series of the same name, is in a world of trouble now. Season 6 ended with Deb finding out his true nature, which leaves the door open to speculation about what he might do next to save his skin. Killing her is a possibility, it would seem.

Fans of the hit show already know the dynamics between Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) have seen a sudden and quite unexpected shift in season 6, with Deb admitting to having more than fraternal feelings for him.

As if that wasn't bad enough, she also walked in on him as he was killing Travis in the church, which was presented in the final episode of season 6.

Leading stars Hall and Carpenter, together with the showrunner and studio bosses, suggested at the 2012 Television Critics Association summer tour that killing Deb might actually be a possibility to consider, Entertainment Weekly reports.

After all, Dexter is a killer.

“One clip showed by the network even suggested a rather nuclear move: Dexter considering killing Debra? 'He’s a serial killer,' explained showrunner Scott Buck. 'It has to at least cross his mind that that would be an easy solution to his problem',” EW writes.

Hall too pointed out that Dexter's next move might not be as predictable as fans could be tempted to believe. However, it would certainly be fascinating to watch, he promised.

“Whatever your opinion about the ranking the seasons, Dexter is never more compelling than when he is in trouble. And he’s never been in deeper trouble than he is now,” the actor told reporters.

He'd been asked whether he thought season 7 could make it up to fans and critics who considered season 6 the weakest of the lot yet.

“It fundamentally changes [their dynamic]… it’s a relief and yet simultaneously a huge problem and a real bear for [them both] to wrestle with,” the actor went on to say about the new dilemma his killer must deal with.

“He has other, more traditional big bads to deal with, but I think the big thing to negotiate is her and their relationship and what she’s going to do with this information,” he added.

“Dexter” season 7 premieres on Showtime this September.
