Showtime’s most beloved serial killer will return this September

It's still four (long) months to go until “Dexter” returns to the small screen, but Showtime doesn't want us to forget about its most beloved and twisted serial killer. A new teaser trailer for season 7 of the show has dropped.

You can see it below, embedded at the end of the article, in all its 15-second glory.

The video doesn't show any new footage – or old, for that matter – being made up solely of a black screen and lines from the previous season.

However, it's nicely put together, in a manner that is by now typical for “Dexter” but which also hints that things are about to change once new episodes premiere.

Considering how season 6 wrapped up, it's to be expected for everything to change.

“Maybe everything is exactly as it should be,” Dexter is heard saying voice over. Fans of the series will know that this isn't exactly so.

As we also noted a while back, producers are well aware that the new twists in the plot occurring in the season 6 finale (Deb finding Dexter during a ritualistic killing, and Deb coming to terms with her un-sisterly love for Dex), will change the dynamic between the two.

At the same time, they want fans to understand that neither is a gratuitous twist employed just for the shock factor, but rather a necessary development in the story they've been building for the past years.

“It occurred to us that she sees something in her brother that she's attracted to. Something dark. A reason why she continuously chooses the people who are not available to her. Who are dangerous. All I can say is that we got inside her head and that's where we came out,” Executive Producer Manny Coto said a while back, after season 6 wrapped.

As expected, Coto would not reveal what fans should expect from the next season, but he did say that all these events would mirror in the plot.

“We have talked about certain possibilities of where we could go though. Don't forget though that the very moment that Deb began to show her feelings she discovered he was a serial killer. So that's going to color her feelings,” he explained.

Season 7 of “Dexter” premieres on Showtime on September 30.
