Eva Longoria is having a very hard time getting new projects off the ground as producer. After her dating series “Ready for Love” bit the dust after just 2 episodes, an upcoming show, also produced by her, is met with harsh criticism.

“Devious Maids” is pushing Latina stereotypes, angry voices are saying online, as ABC News reports.

The show is about 5 Latina women who work as maids for Beverly Hills rich types, and are often in humiliating or simply infuriating situations because of their employers.

One of these angry voices belongs to Damarys Ocana, executive editor of the popular Latina magazine, who believes the world doesn’t need another show / film to portray Latinas as maids.

“There probably wasn’t a Latina in the country who didn’t initially roll her eyes of ‘oh great, here we go again. Another Latina character that’s a maid…’,” Ocana says.

Others have taken to Twitter to voice their outrage but producer Eva Longoria notes that saying the show is encouraging stereotypes means overlooking its biggest merit: namely that it’s an English-language series with 5 Latina leads.

“When we get any sort of backlash, sort of ‘they are playing the stereotypical maids,’ my immediate response is that ‘so you’re telling me those stories aren’t worth telling?’ Those people are lesser than?’,” Longoria says.
