Devil's Third, the most recent project from the creator of series like Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, is mostly an unknown quantity at this point but the leading developer working on the game has confirmed that he plans to use the Relic developed game engine seen in Darksiders to create the game.

Speaking to Gamasutra Tomonobu Itagaki, who is the leader of the Valhalla Games Studio, has stated, “We’re customizing Relic’s engine”.

He added, “THQ, since they’re making games with Yuke’s, they have a lot of people who speak Japanese. Since I speak simple English, I can convey my message. But my staff is probably quite relieved, because THQ has Japanese-enabled people.”

Itagaki has also said that he plans to add a number of middleware elements to the engine, making sure that all the mechanics are well developed and engaging.

Devil's Third will be a third person shooter that will also offer the player a chance to go up close and personal with enemies, with a brutal melee combat system modeled on Ninja Gaiden.

The Valhalla Games Studio boss has also talked a little about the story of the game he is creating, saying that Danny Bilson, who is the Chief Executive Officer at publisher THQ, is providing some work for the narrative sequences, working on a backbone created by Itagaki.

The exact story of Devil's Third has not been revealed but the developers have mentioned that they are planning to use something called the Kessler cascade theory, which posits that increasing orbital impacts might make space travel and satellite use all but impossible in the coming years.

Devil's Third is set to be launched at some point during 2013 and will be playable on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the new Wii U from Nintendo.
